Paleotropis covers large part of Africa (except of its northern and southernmost continent edges), India, South Asia and Indonesia – Paleotropis includes all tropical areas of an Old World. This area is botanically very rich; we can find here 40 endemic families. Approximately 50% of all tropical species is situated just in this floristic region.
In term of development could be this wide floristic region part seen as three units (African part, Indian-Malaysian part and Polynesian part). This could be then classified into following sub-regions:
