Family: Liliaceae Juss.
Distribution: Endemic species of North American Pacific North West, occurring from British Columbia, through Washington state to central Oregon.
Ecology: Wet mountain meadows, open coniferous forests, mostly in higher elevations (300–)800–2000 m, soon after snowmelt, flowering in June to August, dependent on elevation.
Description: Perennial herb, 12–35 cm tall, from narrowly ovoid bulb, 25–60 mm, plants forming large patches. Leaves petiolate, 10–20 cm long, ovate to broadly lanceolate, wavy margins. Inflorescence 1–3-flowered. Flowers nodding, 5–7 cm across, 6 tepals, white, yellow at base, broadly ovate to broadly lanceolate; stamens 12–24 mm, filaments white, anthers yellow; style white, stigma with recurved lobes. Fruit is a capsule, erect, oblong, 3–6 cm long.
