Androsace lehmanniana

Distribution: Caucasus, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, northern China and Siberia, and in North America from Alaska and Yukon through the Rocky Mountains in British Columbia and Alberta to Montana.

Ecology: Rocky slopes, open areas, tundra, from sea level to 4000 m. Blooms in June and July.

Androsace lehmanniana

Description: Perennial herb, flowering stems 2–10 cm tall, forming dense mats. Leaves in multiple rosettes, sessile, ligulate to oblong, dimorphic between inner and outer leaves, 3–15 × 3–4 mm, margins ciliate with simple hairs. Inflorescence 3–8-flowered, umbel-like, peduncle hairy, bracts lanceolate to ovate, broad; pedicels erect, 0.5–1.5 mm; calyx campanulate to subglobose, 3–5 mm, lobes erect; corolla creamy white, with yellow, orange or pink centre, fragrant, 8–10 mm across, pentamerous. Fruit is a capsule, 2–3 mm long.
